I had the pleasure of interviewing someone recently who has truly been an inspiration in my life . This person is that her level of resilience and her growth in the short period of time that I've known her has been unparalleled to anything or anyone that I have ever seen , and I'm so , so proud of her . I met Sandra Ocasio at a virtual assistance event a couple of years ago , right before the pandemic was in full force and we went into quarantine and I actually was invited to that event . So one of the things that I did was I looked up the speakers and , of course , started following them , and I resonated so much with Sandra's story that I knew I wanted to get to know her Fast forward . A few months after that , I hired her for one of my own launches of the Own it Planner , but it was such a tough season in my life that Sandra became so much more than my funnel strategist . She became my confidant , my friend , that person to hear me out . Building a business and raising a family is not easy , and Sandra know this firsthand . But she just became so much more than that , and I had the pleasure of interviewing her recently . Awesome , and I'm really looking forward to our chat , because one of the things that has always been a takeaway in any conversation that I've been with you is that you always keep it real , so it's like hashtag the real Sandra and everything that we do . So tell my audience something . Obviously , you and I go way back , right . Well , I can't say way , way back , but you and I met back in 2020 at a virtual assistance event . It was a networking event hosted here in Florida , and it was actually the last in-person event that I went to before we got hit with quarantine right before the pandemic started . So so so tell my audience you know where you're from and you know how you got started with all of this .

So , yeah , thank you , I so I got . I'm from Mariest . Well , originally , um , I grew up in Connecticut , but right now I'm currently living in Mariest , florida , and I got started in the online space back in 2016 , after experiencing my first military move . My husband's in the air force and I used to work in corporate . Um , I was in corporate for about 12 years and when we got married , I knew that there was going to be a possibility of us moving . But I've always had that mentality that it doesn't matter where we move . I'm going to be good wherever it is that we go .

And so I never thought that leaving Las Vegas and moving to Florida was going to be such a crazy change for me . Because when I got to Florida , I tried to go look for , you know , a regular payroll job , and I kept getting welcomed with great offers like titles like hey , you could be a payroll director , but then they were like for $16 an hour . And I like hey , you could be a payroll director , but then they were like for $16 an hour . And I'm like this ain't adding up for me , the math ain't mapping right now . And so I decided I was like you know what I'm not ? I can't even cover childcare , right Cause , at the time I had a six month old baby . I couldn't even cover child care with $16 an hour . I was like I'm gonna go home and I'm gonna figure this out from home . I don't know what that's gonna look like , whether it's me burning some CDs and selling them out of my trunk or listen , whatever it is , we gonna figure something out .

And so and so then I had a friend who was like listen , you got a lot of corporate experience , you have a lot of admin experience . You have a lot of . You know , you're very tech savvy . Why don't you just like become a virtual assistant ? And so I was like , oh , I don't need . I didn't even know what a virtual assistant was . And so I looked it up and then , sure enough , it was like a lot of the skills that I already had . People were paying you know , paying other people online for those kinds of skills .

And so I started , you know , playing around with the idea of having an online business , and so I started taking all the online courses that you could possibly think of . I did all the coaching that you can possibly think of , all the self-paced courses , I read all the books on bootstrapping , and so then , finally , I started offering virtual assistant services from home , and that was on the . That was in the first year of me being in business , and shortly after that I was like , okay , I kind of outgrew the whole virtual assistant thing and I was like , oh , I really like I started playing with sales funnels and I really love sales funnels . I was like I really love this whole concept of lead generation , sales funnels , how to grow a business online and all of that . And so I became a strategist and eventually just started coaching people on how to like launch their own digital products and services and so .

But it was , you know , it was a journey and at the same time , it was very rewarding to see that it was only seven years ago right , like almost seven years ago that that , that that happened , and so it just , yeah , it's , it's crazy to like now look back and think I've been through so much and it's , it's been rewarding , right , um , now I'm at a place where I finally hit multiple six figures last year , and so now I'm like I'm , I'm obviously trying to figure out what , what's , what does that ? What does business look like now , as you know , getting to half a million or even a million dollars . And so it's just really just embracing that journey , all the mistakes , all the , all the lessons learned , and and just going from there .

Wow , what an amazing story . So so do you think for a moment did you feel , even with your corporate experience and your background and the fact that , let's face it , you're a hustler , right ? You were like I'm going to make it happen , I don't care where I go , whatever I've got to do , I'll do what I need to do , right , as long as it was morally ethical , right ? So did you ever feel that that there was no way that you could do it ? Like , did you have any limiting beliefs at any point in time ? And walk me through that .

I mean , I absolutely there was . And here's the thing I you know , one of my favorite coaches says all the time your business is only going to grow as much as you're willing to heal , and that's very true . It wasn't really until I started tapping into personal development in 2017 . One of the things that I did not mention as part of my story is that in 2017 , after having gotten that momentum of , you know , growing an online business , I hit burnout really fast to a place where I was getting short tempered , I was becoming explosive with my family , and all of that resulted into me checking myself into a mental institute because I literally just lost my mind . Really , that , you know ? It was actually . Yes , can we normalize losing your shit ? Yeah , you can , we can normalize it .

But at that time , I did not know that what I was actually experiencing was not me really losing my . It was me losing my identity Right , and after being misdiagnosed . I was in that hospital for five days . After being misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder , it turned out that what I was actually experiencing was anxiety and panic attacks

and I was going through an identity crisis , right , and so it really wasn't until then that I realized something had to change and I started having all the imposter syndrome you could possibly think of . I was like , can I really do this online thing ? Right , can I really ? And I and now , looking back at it , like now it's like now I'm actually in a place where I can share that story and not be so I felt a lot of shame , like how am I going to teach someone how to grow their business when I'm over here losing my mind , right ?

I started feeling like at that point , like how am I going to grow my own stuff when I can't even like I'm out here checking myself into mental institutes , right ? So I carried a lot of shame for a while with that , and it really required for me to go to therapy and healing and figuring out what did , like I needed to grieve the person I no longer was , and that was that corporate employee that I was no longer that . Right , I didn't even know that walking by my closet and looking at all those corporate suits that no longer fit me was affecting me , right , and so it really required for me to tap into Can I really do this , right ? And so it it really required for me to tap into can I really do this ? Right , and it was , and it's all possible , and at the same time , it also required for me to make changes , adopt some new habits .

Therapy , getting closer to God all those things were the one where we're really the , the road that allowed me to grow my mindset into now believing me having a six-figure , multiple six-figure business is something that's available for me and it's available for all of us . We just need to know how to claim it right . We need to know how to declare that for ourselves .

Wow , like I literally have goosebumps because , as you're speaking , what I heard was that you needed to grieve the person , that you were right , and I've been there because I exited the corporate space in 2019 and I went through that identity crisis as well right , right , moving into a freaking pandemic that I , you know , I was completely feeling like out of control . But what we tend to forget is that we do need to grieve the person that we were in order to give grace to the person that we're becoming Right and that was so , so powerful . And I can tell you for sure , as I choke up trying to get my thoughts together , is that that process takes time health and normalizing . You know what we feel because I think , prior to the pandemic , you know , even seeing a therapist , that was like this big stigma around it . You know it was almost like not allowed , but then you've got you know it's . It's become so much more open . You've got people like like Rachel Hollis talking about you know how , how she's gone through her own therapy . You know support and and assistance that she's needed in her life to be able to balance all of the things right between relationships , children , business and all of that stuff .

When , especially when we know that , as entrepreneurs , it's 80% mindset and if we don't focus on our 80% mindset , then the 20% skill is just never going to get done , it's never going to execute . So , wow , that that's so , so powerful . So what would you say are , um , what would you say are some of the things that , um , that help you not feel that level of , like , anxiety and panic attacks ? Because , let's face it , you know there are times that I feel some triggers . Right , there are certain things that trigger me and and I know , for me , breathing generally helps a lot , so are there . Have you ever felt it come back . What are some things that you ?

Well , I think one of the first things for me was really getting that self-awareness like what is it that is triggering me ? Right , like sometimes we don't , even because we have been conditioned , maybe from childhood , maybe from just life , right , we've been conditioned to sometimes just be very reactive to everything . I had to really take a step back and start identifying . Why is that triggering me ? Really take a step back and start identifying . Why is that triggering me ? Why is that thing and it could be dumb things , right , like my husband used to trigger me a lot . It used to be the little tiny , dumb things that he would do , which I mean , and I say dumb but I find it dumb , right , but maybe in his mind he doesn't think that's dumb . But I would be like hey . So then , you know , I started working with him and I'm like , hey , you know , every time you say this , it's actually making me feel this kind of way . So now I'm actually clarifying what do you actually mean when you say this ? Because it's making me feel some kind of way and I now recognize that I'm responsible for my own feelings , I'm responsible for how I react . I can't even get mad at him for doing certain things and then expect for him to apologize for something that I'm actually self-inflicting because of my own thought process . So it's like we tell ourselves stories when people do certain things , but the reality is they're just feelings and emotions that you can figure out on your own . Why are you , why are you being triggered by that ? So having that self-awareness has really helped me , because in business now I'm looking at it like OK , how could have I handled this differently to get a different outcome Right ? And so sometimes it does require for me to remove the emotion from that where it's like I don't have to be upset about this results . I can just go and do it again and try something different to get a different result Right .

And so now for me it becomes a thing of I don't have to try to figure out if journal like I'm no longer fine , I'm no longer motivated by money , so I'm no longer finding , oh , journaling helps or meditating helps . All of that is great , it is required , but what's actually even more powerful is the way my mindset is working and understanding that I'm fully responsible of how I react to everything . Right . So it's like do I have to ? Not everything merits a reaction . People say things . People will do things online , say things , online , comment things . I'm no longer that reactive person that I used to be .

So it's like now I'm operating business from a different lens . I'm hearing with healed ears , I'm seeing with healed eyes , and so now it doesn't require for me to feel like , oh , that really triggered me . Now I'm actually questioning what am I making that mean ? Whatever it is that my mind is trying to tell me . So now it's like for me it's so much more important to work on my mindset than anything else . You see what I'm saying .

So self-awareness for me has been a big one that allows me to identify all the things . Obviously , expanding my mindset , expanding my vision

, right , if I want to become that seven-figure entrepreneur , well , what does that look like ? How does that Sandra act ? How does she talk ? How does she walk ? How does she treat people ? How does she pay bills ? How does she operate business ? How does she conduct business ? Right ? So it's like expanding my vision has allowed me to now think about well , how does Sandra , how does seven figure Sandra treat her body , her mind , her kids , her husband ? So it's like all of those things that's where I focus my energy on , because I know that if I can visualize that I'll eventually get there . But , more importantly , it's like I'm no longer operating from a survival place , but it's like visualizing the future and operating from that , like I make business decisions right now , in where I want my business to be five years from now .

Does that make sense ? Absolutely , and I think envisioning is so powerful because when you do that , so there's two . There's there's two different ways to a lot of the most common way , I would say , is people talk about vision boards right , but vision boards are more about like , what you want , what you want in the future , and when it comes to really expanding your vision and envisioning the future , you're positioning yourself in that position .

And I love what you just said , because I've done exercises like that , particularly in the last few months and particularly being part of P2P purpose to platform . That has really made me open a lot of you know , maybe some closed doors that I had in my mind and just kind of reopening some of the things and looking at things with more of a of an expanded view , as you , as you mentioned , and I think that's really really powerful . So so , when it comes to identifying that self-awareness and then making sure that you're walking into that expanded vision and expanded mindset , what are your thoughts on self-care ?

See , so here's the thing with self-care . See , so here's the thing with self-care . It actually a lot of people and I mean listen , I think that when you're creating we all talk about wanting to create this like dream , that living the dream right and and it's like okay . So I'm working really hard to live the dream . I'm like I actually live the dream every day .

I don't look at it as like

, oh you know , I'm only going to be happy when I get to this destination , like I'm actually happy right now , I'm happy with what I have right now in front of me . So for me , self-care is actually just being able to be alive every day . To me , is self-care Like some people are like , oh , I got to go get a pedi , a mani , a massage and all of that . For me , self-care is actually saying a lot of no's .

That's self-care .

I'm taking care of me when I say no to dropping off the kid over here or no to these last minute things or no to taking on toxic people . That's self-care to me , right . And so every single day , I'm very conscious about like is this actually me saying yes to some of these things ? Is this actually going to promote in advance to the future , sandra , that I'm trying to work on ?

If it's not , then it's not . Then . To meet self-care is like , hey , listen , it's not . It's not in alignment with what I'm trying to , the road that I'm trying to go down and I have to and that actually also required for me to get to break up with people , relationships that no longer had a loving purpose . That was self-care .

Letting go of toxic family members right , that's self-care , because my mental state is actually important to me . For me , it's important to be sane . It's important for me to be able to pour into people that I know are going to be able to pour back into me and precipitate , or actually a value , or you know . And it's not about just saying , oh , I need you to give me that recognition because I'm pouring into you . It's , this is what I know I'm supposed to do , this is my purpose , right . But when you know you have that toxic family member that comes and depletes the hell out of you but does not pour back in , that's for me like , nah , I'm not available for that kind of violence today , so we're not doing that today .

I love that . So boundaries are part of self-care also , especially when they're healthy boundaries . I always say , you know , when we don't have healthy boundaries , that's like creating self-inflicted wounds .

Absolutely .

It's abusive as well Absolutely wounds , absolutely , absolutely . And not only do we abuse ourselves , but what we're doing is we're also allowing others to abuse our time or to not respect our time and our mental state , or anything like that . So so I think that's , that's very powerful .

Yeah , absolutely . And the thing is too that if you don't start it's . It's almost like if you don't , you get what you tolerate , right , and if you tolerate it and you just let it keep going , then I actually like to , especially when I'm in a relationship , and the thing about relationships is like relationships are really just a bunch of thoughts of how you feel about a person . That's what a relationship is right , and so it's like when the trust is there , you know you have to like . It's almost like you have to make sure that if you're building trust , you got to be honest with yourself hey , listen , these are my boundaries . If you and I , if you were both in agreement with these boundaries , then we could have a relationship together and that's a mutual agreement , right .

But once you start breaking those boundaries , that's when things go wrong , and so it's almost okay . You got to give yourself permission to just be like okay , some things just didn't work out , and that , in the same thing , happens with clients , clients . That's why it's so important to have boundaries with your own clients , because sometimes it's so easy to go down that rabbit hole of like , oh , but it's just this one time , and it's like but that becomes into now you're . You're actually telling people how to treat you by breaking your own boundaries , so you have to honor those boundaries for yourself and for whoever is coming in your life .

Yeah , yeah , I love that for yourself and for the is coming in your life . Yeah , yeah , I love that for yourself and for the people that you love too . You know so . So , sandra , I had the pleasure of working with you two years ago , and a funny story is that , even though we had already been communicating before that point , I'm listening to a podcast one day and I hear Amy Porterfield interviewing someone , and they said my girl , sandra Ocasio , and I stopped everything that I was doing . I was like what , wait a minute ?

Ocasio and I rewound the podcast episode and then I heard it again and I was like crap , that's my Sandra . Heard it again and I was like crap , that's my Sandra . So so tell me who you were back then and now that you are an amazing coach in multimillion dollar communities , what ? Who are you ? Who is Sandra now ? Cause I always say where you are is where I want to be Right , and I'll follow you to the end of the world . And just to be able to see the way you evolve in the last few years is like so amazing . Because you've been , you know , even when I worked with you briefly on a launch of my planner . It was a really tough time , a really tough season for me , and you became more than just my funnel builder . You

were my friend , my , my , my person , you know , and it was so , so good to have you by my side , and why I'm so honored to have you on on on my podcast too . So so , who were Sandra then and who are you now ?

So , sandra , then it's so funny , I don't ever talk to myself , talk about myself in a third person like that . So I , what I , who I was then was , honestly , that's when I was transitioning helping people launching their digital products , helping people come up with the best strategies for group coaching , vip days , you know , like you said , your launch planner and things like that and I knew that I was being called to not do so much of the doing but more of the teaching , like I was , I knew I was being called to go and now teach women how to do this for themselves , and so it's so crazy . The crazy story about that story with the Amy Porterfield podcast is that I had already said I knew God was telling me you need to go be a coach , like , and I never saw myself as a coach . I saw myself as a strategist . I even still call myself a digital strategist to this day . But that weekend when that episode aired , I had told myself I'm no longer going to take on any more retainer clients longer going to take on any more retainer clients helping them with their tech or you know , like the backend support Right , and that that weekend that that episode air , I ended up getting like over 70 different requests .

Hey , sandra , I heard your name on an Amy Porterfield podcast episode . I would love to know how do we work together , and it was like God testing me . Like you said , you don't want to do this anymore . I'm telling you go be a coach , but then let me throw a curve ball in there , right ? So I stick to what I said I was going to do and I told people I'm no , I'm no longer doing these kinds of services .

However , here's how I can . This is the capacity that I'm able to work with you in , and I still was able to make a lot of money like crazy enough that one mention turned into a lot like thousands of dollars of me being able to make for , and it's crazy . So , like , when you do get connected in this manner and people are mentioning you in podcast episodes and things like that , it does convert into something . So it's like , as long as you work with integrity , as long as you show up with a loving heart and a serving heart , like people will still come and say , hey , talk about you when you're not around in good ways , right , and so I think that that was one of the biggest lessons for me . On Sandra , then Like like wow , I did stick to what . Like you said , I do show up as real as possible and I'm not going to lie to me .

I knew I didn't want to do that and could have . I chased the money , yes , but I was chasing the purpose , right , I wanted to chase the purpose over the money . Now I'm no longer motivated by money like that . Now for me it's like is this in alignment with who I'm trying to go Like , who I'm trying to be , or who God is telling me to go become Mm-hmm ? And so now Sandra now knows that I'm called to help hundreds of women know how to launch digital products or , you know , just helping them figure out how to amplify their voice so that they can reach more impact and more income .

I love that . So who's your ideal client ? I love that .

So who's your ideal client ? My ideal client is definitely a woman of faith who is an online entrepreneur . Typically , I am called to help coaches , consultants and freelancers that are looking to launch their digital products , either through group coaching , vip days , you know things like that . But yeah , I mean , overall , she's in a place where she wants to amplify her voice and she just doesn't know how to with her tools , her systems , her automations and things like that .

So what would you say is that person's biggest challenge when they come to you ? Obviously , yeah .

So I think her biggest challenge is like she knows exactly who she wants to serve . She knows exactly how she wants to serve them . She just doesn't know how to package it right . She doesn't know how to put it out there in a manner that it's going to speak to the masses . She doesn't know how to market herself . She doesn't know how to put it all together to be able to sell it . And so that's that's her biggest challenge .

Her biggest challenge is like I know exactly who I want to talk to ,

I know exactly how I can help them , and sometimes it's not even , sometimes it's not even like their actual like how to put it together . I mean , it's like how to actually put the offer together to make it look lucrative , right , to make it look sexy , to make it like you know people for her to show up , hype to want to sell it . Most of the time people show up selling things and they're not hyped to sell it . So how do you expect people to get hyped to buy it , right ? And so that's where she's at .

She's stuck , trying to figure out how , how do I sell this ? I know I want to sell . I don't even know what exactly I want to sell , but I know who I want to serve and how to help them . I have a framework . I just don't know how to put a signature offer together , and so that's where they come and they're like help me put this together , help me put the packaging together Right . And sometimes we get stuck in creating these containers just because we don't know how to put it together .

I love that . We had a community meetup recently with my community and I've been in a couple of the community meetups in your community as well , inside of the Facebook groups , and one of the things that I found was the theme across the board is that we tend to overcomplicate everything , everything and your feedback is always like no , let's bring it back . Let's bring it back , let's bring it back to basics , and creating that you know whether that's elevator pitch or that you know that I help statement on in a in such a way that you can articulate who you're working with , who you want to support and and who you are . What exactly is it that you do so ? So I love all of your insight and always , you know , sharing with everyone with such authenticity and and such integrity and everything that you do . Just like I said , just being able to see how you've evolved in the last few years has been powerful and people are watching and emulating .

And it's so crazy to me , that's so crazy . I still think , even and here's the thing , right as you're going through the notions of like growing , your messaging also changes .

Right , I used to , and I used to ask myself , like right now , and for anyone listening , if right now you're questioning like , why am I still attracting these clients that either don't want to pay me what I'm worth or they're not , um , or don't want to pay me at all , and it's like , well , who are you attracting with your messaging ? Right , because what we actually tend to one of the mistakes that a lot of coaches make , especially trying to sell a high ticket offer is they start utilizing messaging that's talking to the customer that's in survival mode and it's like , well , you want to attract high end clients , but you're talking to them with all this victimization in your messaging , so you're not attracting the right people . So if you want to start attracting better clients , you need to start talking to them differently , right ? So I think that's part of the reason why now I'm in a different space , because I start talking to them and like , right , so I think that's part of the reason why now I'm in a different space , because I start talking to them in , like my messaging is now talking to the empowered woman that's trying to get to the next level , right To the next version of her . It's like you want to start talking to that empowered version of your client . But if you stay stuck talking about the survival story that they're still probably stuck in , it's hard for them to make that buying decision . And so , as I've evolved , my messaging has changed .

Maximizing my day to means to me means doing the things that I love . Letting any day go by without doing something that actually brings me joy Patrice talks about this all the time . Scaling joy is important for me . I have to figure out a way to scale joy every day .

If you don't . Even if it's just the minimal thing , it doesn't have to be something huge . It's like , okay , today , making breakfast for myself is going to scale my joy . I want to do one small thing that's going to bring me joy every single day . And now you can work from a place of gratitude and you can live in a place of gratitude If you , you have to . You're responsible for your happiness . Nobody else you are . And so , for me , maximizing my day is me pursuing happiness every single day . Not just money , not just purpose , but happiness .
